The Canoe Journey is held annually usually starting in July, and ending in August.
This year the Lummi Nation will be hosting Canoe Journey from July 24th through July 28th.
At the end of the canoeing Journey the participants take part in ‘Protocol’, held at the hosting Tribes land.
At Protocol, all of the canoes that landed in their territory are expected to participate in Protocol. This is done by sharing a variety of cultural information, songs, dances, & stories.
To complete the etiquette of Protocol, they will thank and gift the hosting Tribe, then the guests who’ve taken part in witnessing their sharing.
